Devendra Fadnavis Says Won’t Contest Lok Sabha Elections in 2024

Devendra Fadnavis, deputy CM of Maharashtra confirmed that he will not contest Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy CM of Maharashtra has confirmed that he will not be contesting Lok Sabha elections in 2024 but will contest Maharashtra Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) elections which could be scheduled in late 2024 (Oct-Nov).

Fadnavis, the incumbent Deputy CM and former CM of Maharashtra confirmed this on an event at the Meghdoot bungalow in Mumbai. The event was organized on the occasion on Diwali.

Upon being asked where he sees himself a decade into the future, Fadnavis replied that:

In politics, nobody can predict. Even 10 days is a long time. But I can state one thing with absolute certainity that I will remain with the BJP. I will willingly accept whatever role the party leadership assigns me.

Once, there were ripe speculations that the former CM was not satisfied with him being the deputy CM to Eknath Shinde.

Devendra Fadnavis was once also seen as a potential successor to Narendra Modi, possibly after Amit Shah. He is the only Chief Minister in the history of Maharashtra to complete a 5-year term.

Election History of Devendra Fadnavis

Devendra Fadnavis has contested Maharashtra Assembly elections since 1999 to 2009 from Nagpur West assembly seat. Later he switched to Nagpur South West assembly seat.
